Our Method
We aren’t going to make you read generic pages about what we offer, because we know that a personal best looks different on each child. Our sessions focus on curriculum content being covered at school but also find the gaps in a child’s knowledge and their skill set, which allows us to tailor sessions to best suit their individual needs.
It’s not a ‘one-mould-fits-all’ approach
when it comes to learning
Primary School
We offer one-to-one sessions as well as small groups of 2 - 3 students, as this allows for us to personalise their programs. We work with all primary-aged children from Prep (Kindergarten) to Year 6 and specialise in building:
Literacy Skills.
So many of our little ones have gaps in their literacy skills, so here at PB we bring it back to the basics: spelling, phonemic awareness, reading and reading comprehension, writing and vocabulary. We also love to incorporate literacy into our life skills and help them to recognise the importance of these skills in their everyday life.
Numeracy Skills.
Here at PB we love our numeracy skills, as there are so many different fun and interactive ways to teach these topics. Showing our students the connection that numeracy has in their everyday lives is also key to our teaching methods. We work with our students on the skills they are learning in the classroom; however, we also incorporate timetables into our lessons as this is often an area that requires intervention.
High School.
Personal Best has a large enrolment base of secondary school students and we assist our students across a broad range of subjects from: english and math, to science and history. Some students require intensive one-to-one sessions for more personalised support, whereas others prefer to attend the PB Homework Club to complete their tasks under the supervision of a roaming tutor.
VCE
We have a range of tutors who specialise in tutoring VCE subjects and content such as:
English, Biology and General Maths
Study skills in Psychology and Health and Human Development
Exam preparation
Study strategies
Stress management/time management
Organisation
Resources and study guides for our students’ subjects
We work alongside our VCE students with a strong focus on content knowledge and building their skills required for each subject outcome. We also provide our VCE students with exam skills, access to subject workshops to build content knowledge and the opportunity to access their tutors outside of their allocated tutoring time.
NDIS
We currently support many students and their families through the NDIS from children through to adults. NDIS students have programs that are specifically tailored to their goals and can include the following and much more:
Social Skills
Academic Skills
Cooking
Self Care / Personal Care
Daily Living Skills (travelling on public transport, shopping, handling money, bills)
Community-based interaction
We understand that our NDIS families contend with so many issues that are often beyond the realms of education, and that is why our mentoring programs are such an important aspect of what we do here at PB!
